Websites for hosting video?

Hello,

I am looking for a plug & play web site service that offers the ability to host photos and videos.

I have looked at both NEONSKY and LiveBooks but they do not offer the ability to host videos directly with in their templates but rather as an external link.

Does anyone know of any other services like NEONSKY or LIVEBOOKS but has the capability to host videos within their templates?

Thanks

Adam

I can’t think of any that allow easy integration of video. Best would be to use a Content Management System (wordpress, drupal, joomla, etc.) and roll your own site. You won’t have to deal with a flash interface with those types of sites, either. With those, you get the convenience of a database-driven administrative backend that keeps all of the files, captions, stories organized and then apply templates to present the information. Each page exists on it’s own, is bookmarkable, google-searchable, and can host anything from text and pictures to embeddable videos and javascript and flash content. I do webdesign using wordpress as a CMS, by the way.

Adam, I would talk to Neon Sky they may be able to do that relatively easily.

My site is with neonsky, and as soon as I finish my mm piece, I’ll want to put it up, so I have emailed them (fro you and for me) to ask what the options are..but maybe you already asked them?

here you go..answer from neonsky

You can upload multimedia content for use in your site. The movies will play in an auto-sized pop-up window when visitors click the links you add to your site. The background color of the window will take on the background color of your Website. Or you can simply email a link directly to the presentation.

I believe you can feature media files on Livebooks as well. The only problem is that video takes lot’s of space and you might only have limited space on those servers. I have Livebooks myself, but my videos are stored on my personal web server and I have them available via the iTunes video podcast directory as well direct on my site.

I can speak to liveBooks’ ability to host multimedia content. In short, embedded video pages are entirely possible and becoming more common. The standard multimedia hosting function that is included with all professional website packages allows clients to upload and manage content (.mov, .wmv, .flv, soundslides, etc.) via the EditSuite admin software. Clients can create multiple separate categories to feature multimedia content, and on the front end of the site this work is displayed in a pre-sized secondary popup window. A great example of this feature can be seen here:

www.curseoftheblackgoldbook.com (check the MOVIE menu)
www.rafalgerszak.com (some videos are very large in size depending on how they’re created and exported and may take awhile to download)

All liveBooks sites can be customized with help from our in-house design staff to feature embedded and interactive video pages within the main site frame. These pages can have as few or as many videos as you like and are quoted based on the design time and complexity of building the page:

www.chrisrainier.com (two categories featuring embedded video pages)
www.colinfinlay.com (a video interview is embedded into the existing site frame)
www.justinfrancis.com (amazing interactive video pages throughout this site)

Alternatively, all liveBooks sites feature the ability to post video in clients’ dedicated FTP areas. This enables users to either link to the uploaded content from other places on the site or send custom URLs to individuals that will take them directly to the content. In short, the FTP function can serve as a personalized hosting service for this type of content as well as a reliable method of delivering high res files and hosting web galleries, etc.

I hope that this helps to clarify what is possible with liveBooks software. Feel free to contact me with any questions – I’m glad to help!

Will.
